Cases | In re J.M.H., 924 P.2d 895 (Utah Ct. App. 1996) | 2018

The juvenile defendant pled guilty to having received stolen property after trading stereo equipment for approximately $800-worth of goods stolen from a skateboard store. The juvenile court ordered the defendant and another juvenile to pay $8000 each in restitution to the skateboard store. On appeal, the defendant argued that the juvenile court exceeded its authority in ordering restitution of $8000 in light of the defendant’s nonparticipation in the burglary and receipt of only a portion of the stolen goods. The court of appeals agreed. The judgment was reversed and the case remanded for further proceedings.
