The crime of malicious mischief occurs when a person maliciously damages, defaces or destroys any property of another person. 1. If the value of property is less than five hundred dollars ($500.00), then the crime is a misdemeanor.

2. If the value of property is equal to or more than five hundred dollars ($500.00), then the crime is a felony.
