(1) In any case filed in the court were the legal or physical custody of a child is at issue and there is also pending, or adjudicated, a child custody or visitation case involving the child in a domestic relations, filiation or guardianship proceeding, the matters shall be consolidated. Matters so consolidated may be resolved at different stages of the proceedings.
(2) Upon entry of an order of consolidation, all matters related to custody or visitation shall be heard and decided together, and existing orders may be modified.
